Julio Nery

“Rivers know this: there is no hurry. We shall get there some day.” -A. A. Milne

This is the moment that children should have access to explore the world all around them. They should have limitless opportunities to be adventurous before life becomes too academic in their future educational journey.

Julio was born in Acapulco, Mexico. His family moved to Long Beach when he was 5. Ever since he can remember he has always wanted to be a teacher. He was that kid who would gather up all his cousins in the family and have them be his students. To accomplish his goal of becoming a teacher, Julio moved to Santa Barbara and attended Antioch University. There, he got his BA, studied for his Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, and completed a year of his Master’s in Education. Julio has worked in a variety of programs over the last 25 years.

Reading is one of Julio’s passions. He loves coming up with different voices for characters in young children’s books. Also encouraging the children to participate in retelling the story in their own words. In his spare time, his nose is in a book at local libraries. Julio considers libraries his adult playground.
